You may or may not have surfed before but we all know the feeling of plunging through the face of a wave and emerging into the calm water behind it. Where's my car at?

I parked my car on Arrol Road, Beckenham on Monday night and now it's not there. As such I think it's been stolen and would like to get it back. I was planning many things for my car this year but it's looking increasingly unlikely they'll happen. I was asked recently what sort of photography I do. I wouldn't say that I really 'do' photography as such, more that I take photos of everything and anything I find interesting. As such the image below was taken because I liked the trees. It's also where my mum used to walk on her way home from the beach and where my dad used to go hunting (thankfully not at the same time). On behalf of the very worthy cause of The Prostate Cancer Charity I have turned the clocks back 5 years and shaven my sacred beard. Why you ask? Because for the month of Movember my team and I will be growing moustaches to raise money for the charity. Having not shaven properly in 2 years, I forgot how unpleasant it was. It's a lot of effort and the only reward is razor burn, having a considerably colder face and looking like your 18 year old self. So after a tremendous two years of Vesta Road and her various residents it came to moving out time. Having only personally been involved with this domicile of dreams for a year I can still say it was a sad day when the door was closed for the final time. I was recently honoured by receiving an invitation to participate in the opening exhibition of The Camera Club at the famous Beach Road Hotel, in Bondi, Syndey. Ironically I spent a lot of time there during my residence in Sydney but it's only now I'm home in London that I've been given the opportunity to show my work at such a great venue.

Pedro dropped me a link to a competition for a gallery opening in Hong Kong. The theme was everyday events and you had to post 3 images to Canada. At the time, that dirty Volcano was chucking up ash and interrupting air traffic so I got a mate in Canada to print and post mine for me as well (just in case). Turns out little brother, James and I each had a photo chosen and put into the exhibition. Quite pleased about that really, nothing major but it's great to think international mail allowed us to share our work like that. Have a butcher's at our selected shots and all the other great stuff that went up here.

Volcanic Sunset

As I'm sure you're well aware there was a Volcanic eruption in Iceland recently that launched a whole load of material into the atmosphere. Whilst this created some serious problems for many, for me it created a unique photo opportunity. Probably never again in my lifetime will I be able to photograph such a rich sunset (resulting from the volcanic compounds in the atmosphere) without a single plane in the sky. I recently acquired a Canon EOS 650 35mm from ebay for the princely fee of £14.99 (inc p&p). As a result I can now shoot film with digital lenses. The photos were developed at Boots in Surrey Quays for £3 a film. Laters Asda.

Ferrier Estate, Kidbrooke.

Last Thursday Hugh and I went down to the Ferrier Estate in Kidbrooke (near Lewisham) and spent 4 hours looking around and taking photos, we were only meant to pop down and have a look. So on Sunday about 10 of us piled in to various cars and drove down (via Goldsmith's Cafe for a fry-up) armed with camera's and several layers of clothing.
To anyone observing it must have looked like some form of school trip and whatever residents left in the semi-abandoned estate must have wondered what we were all doing. However the freezing wind soon took its toll and 10 became 6. A few hours later 6 became 3 and at 4.30, Hugh, Al and I called it a day and headed for central heating.
It was a very rewarding day, the results of which can be viewed here: MylesPerHour. I'll post a better selection once I figure out how to post photos properly.

February 2010 sucked but was drawn to a close this weekend using a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night combo, the highlight of which was Fuck The Whiteboard's 1st Birthday at The Macbeth. I'll be honest, I don't remember all that much of it but I do know I enjoyed it.

With the weekend and February now behind me, I woke up Monday morning to an infeasibly bright room and the feeling that something was different. Indeed it was because when I twisted the blinds, my retinas were treated to the sight of a glorious spring day. I won't go into a lavish description of how spring makes me feel as I'm sure you're all feeling it in your own way. Suffice to say that I've reached the light at the end of the tunnel, it's all clicking into place and the only way is up (ah-ah). Haha, so cheesy.

So SPRING - FUCK YEAH!

Brighton

So the other weekend we bombed it down to Brighton in Hugh's motor and has a total result of a Saturday night/Sunday. I didn't take any photos on the night out, being too concerned with consuming all the beer in Brighton but I shot a roll of B&W for the hangover. After a hearty fried breakfast and several cups of tea at Kensingtons we meandered down to the sea front. The water was eerily still yet strangely inviting, so logically Jethro, Hugh and I threw on our bathers and dived in. Cold doesn't really describe the burning sensation that envelopes you 2 seconds after submerging. Certainly killed the hangover though. Nice one Brighton.

3 weeks in Oz over xmas taught me that taking photos in sunny weather is so much easier and in many ways, more rewarding. Everything looks so much better bathed in golden sunlight. £80 later and I've got all the prints back from the trip. As a result of renewed and persistent support and threats from friends and family alike I have decided to make a concerted effort to pull my finger out and get on with it.
